Recent developments in technology allows us to collect data via wearable devices. The sensors integrated on our smart phones and watches are used to collect data on our health dynamics and our stress levels. Moreover, the use of wearable devices is an important way to collect data from patients in health care. The parameters such as blood pressure, glucose level or heart rate measured by wearable sensors are useful to diagnose patients with diabetes, hypertension and cardiovascular diseases. However, due to the high dimension and the continuous structure of the obtained sensor data, there is a need of novel statistical approaches in data analysis processes. One of the methods that is recently getting popular to analyse these type of sensor data is functional data analysis (fda). In this study, we review literature on applications of functional methods to wearable sensor data in healthcare with the aim to increase the use of fda in this field.
